Emergency & Short-Notice Support

Services

When things change unexpectedly, we show up. Fast.

Life doesn’t always go to plan. Carers get sick. Situations change overnight. Support falls through at the last minute. When that happens, you need a provider who picks up the phone and gets someone to you quickly, without making you feel like a burden for asking.

That’s exactly what we do.

Services

Emergency Respite

Emergency respite is for when a carer is suddenly unable to provide support and an alternative needs to be arranged fast. Whether it’s illness, a family crisis, or an unexpected change in circumstances, our team works quickly to put the right support in place so your loved one is never left without care.

What counts as an emergency respite situation?

Emergency respite applies when a carer is unexpectedly unable to provide support due to illness, hospitalisation, a family emergency, or any other unforeseen circumstance. It can also apply when a participant’s living situation changes suddenly and immediate support is needed. If you’re not sure whether your situation qualifies, call us and we’ll work it out together.

How quickly can you respond?

We do everything we can to respond as quickly as possible. In many cases we can have a support worker in place within hours. Response time depends on location and availability, but we never leave a family waiting without doing everything in our power to help.

Is emergency respite funded by the NDIS?

Yes. Emergency and crisis respite can be funded through your NDIS plan under Core Supports. If you’re a carer registered with Carers Gateway, there may also be additional funding options available to you. Our team can help you understand what you’re entitled to and how to access it quickly.

Services

Short-Notice & Last-Minute Support

Not every urgent situation is a full emergency, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful. If your regular support worker is unwell, you have an unexpected appointment, or your plans change at short notice, we’ll do our best to step in and make sure you’re covered.

What kinds of short-notice situations can you help with?

We can assist with a wide range of short-notice requests including cover when a regular support worker is unavailable, last-minute transport to appointments, urgent in-home assistance, and unplanned overnight or sleepover support. If you’re in a bind, reach out and we’ll see what we can do.

Do I need to be an existing client to access short-notice support?

No. We work with both existing participants and new enquiries for short-notice support. If you’re contacting us for the first time in an urgent situation, let us know when you call and we’ll prioritise your request.

Will I get the same support worker each time?

We always aim for consistency, but in short-notice situations we prioritise getting the right support to you as quickly as possible. We’ll match you with a worker who has the right experience for your needs and will always brief them fully before they arrive.

Carer Support & Backup Planning

Carers carry an enormous amount. We work with families and carers to put a backup plan in place before an emergency happens, so that when things do go wrong, there’s already a clear path forward. Being prepared makes all the difference.

What is a carer backup plan?

A carer backup plan outlines what happens if the primary carer is suddenly unable to provide support. It identifies who to contact, what supports are needed, and how quickly they need to be in place. Having a plan ready means less panic and faster action when you need it most.

How do I set up a backup plan with Angels On Duty?

Simply get in touch with our team and we’ll schedule a conversation to understand your situation, your participant’s needs, and what a backup arrangement would look like in practice. We’ll document everything clearly so it’s ready to activate at a moment’s notice.

Does Carers Gateway cover any of this?

Yes. As a partner with Carers Gateway, we can connect carers with additional support and funding options that sit outside of the NDIS. This includes support for carer wellbeing, planning, and emergency assistance. Talk to our team to find out what’s available to you.

Services

Available Around the Clock

Emergencies don’t keep business hours. Our team is available outside of standard office hours for urgent situations because we know that when something goes wrong, it rarely happens at a convenient time.

How do I reach you after hours?

What if I need overnight or sleepover support urgently?

We can arrange urgent overnight and sleepover support where availability allows. Let us know the situation when you call and we’ll work through the options with you straight away.

What areas do you cover for emergency support?

We provide emergency and short-notice support across Brisbane, Ipswich, the Lockyer Valley, and the Gold Coast. If you’re in one of these areas and need urgent help, reach out and we’ll do our best to assist.
