Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA)

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)

A safe, supported place to stay while your long-term plan comes together.

Sometimes life puts you in a position where you need somewhere stable to live while you wait for your long-term housing to be confirmed. That in-between period can feel uncertain and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Medium Term Accommodation gives you a comfortable, supported place to stay for up to 90 days while your permanent housing solution is being arranged.

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)

MTA is an NDIS funded support that provides participants with short to medium term housing while they wait for their long-term accommodation to be confirmed. It bridges the gap between where you are now and where you’re headed, so you’re never left without a safe and stable place to live during a period of transition.

How long can I stay in MTA?

MTA can be funded for up to 90 days under your NDIS plan. In some circumstances this can be extended if your long-term housing is taking longer than expected to arrange. Your support coordinator can help manage the timeline and communicate with the NDIS if additional time is needed.

What situations does MTA apply to?

MTA is typically used when a participant is waiting for a long-term supported accommodation arrangement such as SIL or SDA to be confirmed and set up, when someone is transitioning out of hospital or a care facility and their home is not yet ready, when a living situation has broken down unexpectedly and a safe alternative is needed while a new plan is developed, or when a participant is moving to a new area and needs somewhere stable while they settle in.

Is MTA the same as Short-Term Respite?

No. Short-Term Respite (STR) is designed to give participants a break from their usual routine and carers a period of rest. MTA is specifically for participants who need a place to live during a housing transition. The funding comes from different parts of your NDIS plan and serves a different purpose.

What Your MTA Stay Includes

During your MTA stay, we make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable, supported, and stable while your long-term arrangements are put in place. Our focus is on making this transition as smooth and stress-free as possible.

What is included in an MTA arrangement?

Your MTA stay includes safe and comfortable accommodation, access to support workers for personal care and daily living assistance, meals as agreed, assistance with any appointments or community access needs, and ongoing coordination with your support coordinator to keep your long-term housing plan on track. The specific supports included will depend on what is funded in your NDIS plan.

Will I have my own space?

Yes. We ensure every participant has their own private space during their MTA stay. Your comfort and privacy matter, and we work hard to make the environment feel as welcoming and home-like as possible during what can be a challenging period.

Can family or carers visit during my stay?

Yes. We encourage connection with family and support networks during your MTA stay. Visits from family members and carers are welcome and we’ll work with you to make sure the arrangement supports your relationships and wellbeing throughout.

Making Transitions as Smooth as Possible

Moving into MTA and then transitioning out into your long-term accommodation involves a lot of moving parts. We work closely with you, your family, your support coordinator, and other relevant parties to make sure every step of the process is as smooth, clear, and low-stress as possible.

How do I transition into MTA?

The process begins with a referral from your support coordinator or care team. We’ll then work with everyone involved to understand your needs, confirm the funding arrangements, and prepare your accommodation before you arrive. We aim to make the move-in process as straightforward as possible so you can settle in quickly.

What happens when my long-term housing is confirmed?

As your long-term accommodation is confirmed, we’ll work with you and your coordinator to plan the transition. This includes preparing you for the move, coordinating with your new support provider if needed, and making sure your ongoing support needs are in place from day one in your new home.

What if my long-term housing takes longer than expected?

We understand that housing timelines can shift, and we’ll do everything we can to provide stability while your plan comes together. If your MTA period needs to be extended, we’ll support your coordinator in communicating with the NDIS to explore your options.

Services

Consistent Support Throughout Your Stay

During your MTA stay you’ll have access to trained, compassionate support workers who are there to help with your daily needs and make sure you feel settled and well supported throughout. We don’t just provide a roof — we provide genuine care for the whole time you’re with us.

What daily support is available during my stay?

Depending on what is funded in your NDIS plan, support during your MTA stay can include personal care, meal preparation, household assistance, medication support, community access, and help with appointments. We work with your plan to make sure the right supports are in place from the moment you arrive.

Will I have the same support workers throughout my stay?

We aim to provide as much consistency as possible with your support team. Having familiar faces around you during a period of transition makes a real difference, and we do our best to maintain that consistency throughout your stay.

Can you help me with planning for my long-term accommodation while I'm staying with you?

Absolutely. We work closely with support coordinators and housing specialists and can assist you in staying on top of the planning process during your stay. You won’t be left to figure it all out on your own.
